Responding to overwhelming pressure to do something about rampant displays of racism against Spanish players, La Liga, the Spanish Football Association has acted decisively to undertake a collective campaign to counter attack racism experienced on the pitches.

The General Barca Foundation was initiated after seeing players from Barcelona being verbally abused using gestures and fruits, which culminated in the auspicious event that turned the tide, so to speak.

 

Racism in sport isn’t limited to just football in Spain, when Spain’s Alonso  & the UK’s Hamilton were battling for the title, racist taunts and jeers were received by Lewis from the Barcelona fans

For many locals and expats this was an unbelievable turn of events with many not seeing blatant and brash racism exhibited outside of the football arena

It became very clear that racism in sports was not only still an issue that needed to be addressed but that we were also now in the age of sport greats passing the torch to chosen ones and newcomers to continue “running the race/counterrace” to racism in sport
